Maya Blasingame
Maya Blasingame is a rising third-year medical student at Duke University School of Medicine with a strong interest in oncology and a deep commitment to health equity. She graduated summa cum laude from Spelman College in 2023 with a B.S. in Biology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and the Beta Beta Beta Biological Society. At Duke, her interest in surgery grew through her participation in the ASPIRES program, which exposes students to various surgical subspecialties. During her third year, she will be conducting research examining survival outcomes in breast surgical oncology. She is actively involved in the Student National Medical Association, where she helped launch mentorship programs for pre-medical students and serves on the Admissions Committee to support diversity in medicine. She is also a passionate advocate for maternal and reproductive health through her work with the Black Maternal Health Equity Initiative. Beyond the classroom and clinic, Maya contributes to science communication as a research intern for In Those Genes, an award-winning podcast exploring genetics and Black culture.
